This is probably a question for dominants.
I once had a regular mistress who soaked her 'special' cane in readiness for me. I remember it was always on view when I arrived the end wrapped in some wet tissue or possibly a damp cloth I don't remember the detail.
I understand the reasons for the process but what would be a recommended wetting procedure. Does it stand in water first for 20 minutes or an hour? How much of the cane should be immersed? Or is it OK to just wrap the end in a very wet cloth for several minutes.

Is there a dominant on here who has done this or informed subby that has experience of this please.
