The lock can be held in place by either a rubber band around the cock cage and lock or I use cable straps that have Velcro

The lock you could change the lock for a brass one but even they are prone to some rust, lubrication is the answer (don't use a water based lube though) a drop or two of 3 in 1 oil once a week should help.

Wouldn’t the solution be to use those numbered (coded) cable tie things in place of the lock.
Wouldn’t set off any metal detectors either as you pass through immigration.

I did own a CB6000s......... once upon a time. A certain young lady makes use of it from time to time...... not on me I might add.

Absolutely nothing to tell you and for those on here who have met my GG.
They would definitely tell you she could never use it on herself.

But I know one of her pets who gets put in it.
