The Art of Not Dyeing
Continuing with my new found adventures in hoods and breath play I am looking to experiment a bit more with re-breathe bags. I have a concern over their use though and don't want my erotic enthusiasm to by-pass basic common sense, which so easily happens when the horn is up..
I presume it is inadvisable to experiment with a totally sealed rebreathe bag whilst alone because of the dangers of CO2 poisoning gradually building up which then results in a slide into unconsciousness and eventual asphyxiation. Or is this not the case and the body will react strongly when desperate for oxygen ? My question though is regarding the uncapped rebreathe bags which have that small aperture at the end. Is this aperture a sufficient safety guard against accidental asphyxiation ? It doesn't look very wide and I can't see how they work. It would seem by looking at photos that as breath is inhaled the bag collapses along the folds which seals off any intake of fresh air. Hence, the aperture and bag acts like an exhale valve which won't permit much air into the system ? Is this the case or is the operation a little different to how I am assuming it to be ? I enjoy this play with an experienced Mistress and after an incident during a recent session I know that I am in very safe hands and that She has a back-up system in case of emergencies. Unfortunately, my enjoyment of the kink entices me to play solo when not in session and I am trying to assess the risks and possible mitigations of such solitary play. Aperture, or no aperture, I think I may have just answered my own concern there. It's good to talk (to oneself) isn't it. Any experienced experts or medical peoples who can confirm my thoughts on how not to die whilst holding an erection in my hand ? My erection, obviously ! Kind Regards, Rimmer.

Co2 doesn't poison you. It make you breathe faster and more urgently (interestingly even when there is an abundance of oxygen hence the not so well known Carbogen play). Co2 also increases the chance of hallucinations so I always allow it to build up when using gas, and only have the smallest exhaust just to allow easy exhalation.
Don't underestimate your body's innate desire to keep living. Increased Co2 makes you fidgetty because your body wants you to move elsewhere where presumably there will be more oxygen. As long as the mask isn't strapped to your head you should be okay. As you have already rightly guessed you can't rely on the plug at the bottom of the bag for anything. Some bags have them, some don't, I find them useful to add something to a closed system but I'd never use it as an exhaust. The best thing to do is get a bag, get a t piece that has an adjustable exhaust and an anaesthetic mask. You can adjust the exhaust to suit your breathing rate and how much co2 you are comfortable with and don't strap to your head AT ALL EVER. Dammmit, I'm not sure it is called a t piece and all mine are at the clinic so I can't photograph one for you and even worse Instincts MI has closed!! So no pics from there.
