But I’d have thought that you need someone you can connect with, on the same wavelength as you interest wise etc

A sadist in the true sense of the word would be do good as a Dominatrix, a real sadist gets fulfilment / satisfaction from the suffering of others with no empathy or sympathy.

A Dominatrix needs to have empathy for their subject

Yes, that's correct. But there's a grey area between what the submissive truly wants to suffer, and what a mistress thinks he should reasonably (key word, I think) be expected to suffer. Sadism, of the reasonable kind and if that is not a contradiction in terms, lives in that gap.

Apologies for repeating a very recent post of mine, but screaming didn't save me (whereas whimpering normally does). I honoured the pre-agreement not to use a safe word, but more importantly perhaps, I think the absence of a tribute turned the session dynamic. It was far more than I hoped or expected, and I think she knew that.
