I'm getting it put onto my laptop (another fugging virus has wiped it out again) so I'll let you know.

They guy who is currently giving CPR to Lappy was showing W7 to me yesterday evening. It looks great and he said he was really impressed with it. He said its everything Vista should have been and to his consternation he is now using IE (rather than Firefox) because it is so superfast now. It's also supposed to be the dog's bollocks when it comes to blocking viruses as well.

Ie 8 is a lot faster and i had a few issues with vista which seem to be cleared on 7, though i miss windows mail but it does give you windows live which is similar.

I've been using an RC version of Windows 7 for quite some time now and am really impressed with it. The RC version expires on the 1st June next year but I will be upgrading before then.

RC stands for Release Candidate

This is the very last version which comes after the various Beta versions and before Release to Manufacture (RTM) which is what goes to the DVD burning factories and on to retail sale. There have, with some products, been more than one release candidate, these are then known as RC1, RC2 etc.

The RC is pretty much complete and fully functional.

I like Win 7 - have been using it for a while on a machine at work and on my second home machine (the one that lives in the garage and is used for places like this). I will be installing it on my main home machine just as soon as I get around to it.

It seems to have less overhead than Vista - it seems to run better on the same hardware. It's prettier and looks pretty slick. IE8 is quick enough for sure, but it does seem to crash more than IE7 did. However, on restart it does try to take you back to where you were, with some success which is helpful.

If buying new, or reinstalling, I would certainly choose 7 over Vista. I'd prefer either of them over XP provided the hardware was up to it.

RC = Release Candidate.

It is the one after Beta and before Public Release.

Edit: Just seen JimBeams much better description above which he posted whilst I was distracted by Strictly: It Takes Two!

Doesnt the RC run out from May and will infact keep powering your PC/laptop off every 2 hours until its upgraded?

Im out of IT work now so not sure if its true lol.. but knowing microsoft.

W7 is a good package, it is what XP was to 98. Much better looking, working and will soon be the replacement to XP that vista never was.

Then again, im still on XP one day ill get around to W7, i hope the shake and drop is still in it...
