In a previous post I noticed that some words were changed upon submission.
Can I ask why ?
Ovbiously I cannot repeat the woprds because they would change immeadiately.
The words were , a male farmyard animal that crows at daybreak together with a leg joint between the ankle and hip.
The term for a person born to unmarried parents.
A game played between 11 players which the yanks refer to as soccer .
These terms are not offensive, so why the change?
Would it be possible for a mod to list the banned words and give a reason why they are banned and should not be used?:tumbleweed:

Mods do not have access to that part of the message board, hopefully <b>cerbie</b> will let us know which he has set, some may be default settings vBulletin software which may need adjustment, we are still in the bedding in process

The fact that a certain word was banned on the old site because someone didn't like the game is irrelevant. This is a new site and we should start completely from scratch. There have been quite a few postings on the subjectof f00tball, all the south people promoting chelski and arsehole, that has been good banter so I cannot see why the actual word is banned.
If someone is going to object to f00tball, then I will raise an objection to the words cricket and rugby as I cannot stand those sports but both of which have been discussed at length on the old board without any changes to name.:tumbleweed:

It does seem rather bizarre if not laughable that a 'Adult Forum Board' which discusses BDSM, should ban any words at all, after all we are all adults!
The vBulletin software comes with a file ready installed that contains a somewhat strange collection of (american?) words that its creators consider to be offensive. You can easily edit the file to remove the words.
I believe that the problem with the old Ikonboard software was that you could not have a blank file you had to have a least one word so Sally decided in his wisdom to have the word f00tball.
Thanks for the reply Pheonix, as you point out it does seem rather silly that f00tball is a banned word when you consider some of the topics that have been discussed.
Still cannot understand why the word c0cknee changes. I can understand people wishing to ban them but I never realised that the word itself was banned.:shooting::tumbleweed:
I guess this is one of those early board things that will in time get resolved. But I agree, it would be great to drop the ban on the word f0otball.
But there again I would wouldn't I!! :old_thumbs-up:
In vBulletin under Censorship Options you can disable this feature altogether which would probably be the sensible thing to do on an adult orientated board like this.
Might give the poor under worked Mods something to do deleting all our offensive posts then! :D :D

The game involving the ball and 11 men is a banned word.. and will
remain a banned word.. It's a tradition from the old board and we're
keeping it. End of.
The banning of other words considered offensive is to protect those
who may surf from a workplace from triggering their net nanny as it
scans for profanity in the text of a page. If you wanna say c0ck then
stick a zero in it and neatly avoid our profanity filter and those of any
big brother sniffing your content.
If you want to fill a board with profanity then.. well.. sorry yr out of
luck here.
We may have an adult theme but I'm old fashioned and I see no need
to sign a carte blanche for everyone to be effing and jeffing all over the
shop.

Now what would we be without traditions eh? 6 of the best.....handkerchief codes...even collars..... And for UK-M one of it's 'traditions' is the banning of the word f00tball...yes, it was a test word...that grew...and ISTR that it was chosen because it tends to be a male dominated game, that quite frankly bores the pants off me and I don't like it :tongue_2:
If you want to make a big issue out of banned words on this site, please go ahead, but I assure you, you will loose. As cerbie has pointed out, some people need this site to be as 'work safe' as possible, and that means even having 'fluffy bunnies' as the webpage title.

For clarification.. the current list of words that will be altered automatically is...... (with _'s to get them thru the filter)
B_astard, B_ollocks, C_hink, C_ock, C_oon, C_unt, F_aggot, F_lange,
F_ootball, F_uck, F_ucking, H_ooker, K_nob, N_igger, N_once, P_aki,
P_iss, P_oof, P_rat, Q_ueer, S_hit, S_hite, S_pear Chucker, T_wat
As you can see it is by no means an exhaustive list and since it was
added in haste some of them are a little 'debatable'. I think I might be
persuaded to allow the use of P_iss, K_nob and P_rat, for example!!!
If you have typed something other than a word on this list and it has
automagically changed in your post then we have a gremlin and I will
need to investigate.
However... profanity is and will be banned. It's the policy. Some words
'may' dissapear from that list and I'm fairly sure, as our membership expand
my education of profanity, more will be added :)

Well in the doi thread 'domestic servitude' the board did alter the word 'p r a t i c a l' into pregnant fischical :) allbeit the original word was mispelt in the first place. :tumbleweed:
pregnant goldfishical = p.r.a.t.i.c.a.l

I'd see banning 'q_ueer' as problematic too. Within BDSM it's more likely to indicate a particular sex/gender identification than be used as an insult. It has uses beyond those two, of course. And it's not a word I see as being especially likely to cause problems in work environments - certainly not as much as gay or lesbian still might.
'Q_ueer' is so much more than 'strange'.

A P_rat is a pregnant fish. Usefull info for your next pub quiz. I think we can loose the P_rat entry (see my earlier post)

Q_ueer is often used on t'internets as a derogatory term. I could be persuaded to allow it. But less so than P_rat and F_lange. As it has been
used as a 'weapon' in the past.
I'd really like to not get into a huge debate about this folks. There are other much bigger fish in my frying pan at the moment.
Can we just say "Profanity will be removed. The exact word-list is under review" and go back to beating people?

Might I suggest, in the interests of work safety, that the big UK_MISTRESSES banner at the top left of every page is either made smaller, or changed to something more anonymous, maybe UKM. It can be read from quite a distance away.

It can also be scrolled off the screen fairly easily.
I'm not going to completely sanitize the board to make it work safe. That would be barmy! What I'm trying to do is walk a fine line between giving people 'some' camouflage and keep the board true to it's content.
Again, thank you to everyone for their input. I'm happy that the current format of the board suits the majority of the users. It won't be changing in the foreseeable future.

I think that most of those 19 are Spambots and not real people. :)
Is it possible to place something a little clearer that tells anyone browsing the old uk-m that we are indeed now over on the new patch ?
I have made a post or two... or three... over on the old UKM in an attempt to catch the attention of those few members who, amazingly, still don't seem to realise that we have all moved to a far nicer place! :)
